The list of 50 companies is based on the billions of actions taken by the LinkedIn community and looks at three main pillars: employee growth, job seeker interest, and member engagement with the company and its employees. Rubrik has experienced unparalleled growth in a short amount of time, an achievement that comes with some expected challenges. As the company continues to scale, we are determined to stay true to our core principles to keep this one of the best places to work. Rubrik - - What It Means to Be a VMware vExpert

What It Means to Be a VMware vExpert

Being a technical professional often results in no one knowing about the work being done–if things go according to plan. Our focus is on being invisible. We set up complicated servers, hook them all together, and offer up resources for virtual machines and data repositories. And in the end, an application is given a home, where visibility of the world is often abstracted from view. I think this is one reason why engineers like myself like to write about current infrastructure. From bugs to beautiful cabling jobs, we find beauty in our operational expertise. And few programs reward the blogs, podcasts, presentations, and overall evangelism of passionate virtualization professionals the way VMware’s vExpert award does. This is an acknowledgement from VMware given to over 1,200 people who have demonstrated the ability to pass along their knowledge to the community. It’s not easy to come home from a long day of work and fire up your laptop to engage in even more work-centric focus. The amount of contributions and the willingness to discuss various areas of expertise speak highly of these technical professionals and their dedication to performant infrastructure for their business. And while there are a few rewards for becoming a vExpert,…

Score Snazzy Swag at the vBrownBag End of Year Give Away Extravaganza

One of the spectacular attributes of the virtualization community is the stellar folks who put forth time and energy to help others. A shining example of this is the vBrownBag folks. From hosting technical webinars with industry rockstars to recording presentations at major industry events, the people at vBrownBag provide an excellent resource for technical professionals looking to learn from one another. I remember when I first started tuning into the VMware Certified Professional (VCP) series many years ago and was amazed at how deep the presenter knowledge went. Each year during the holidays, vBrownBag asks vendors throughout the ecosystem to pitch in a few presents for community members to win by signing up for a giveaway contest. Last year, we at Rubrik posted details on how to win one of five copies of the Networking for VMware Administrators book (profits going to Alzheimer’s Association) along with Millennium Falcon LEGO sets. I think it was a fun set of swag for adults and kids to enjoy – or an adult who is a kid at heart. This year, we’re once again contributing to the vBrownBag End of Year Give Away Extravaganza with some snazzy new items! You have until Tuesday, 20th…

10 Reasons Why You Should Intern at a Startup

All of the software engineering students out there are crazy about internships/jobs at top tech giants — Google, Facebook, Microsoft, etc. Have you ever considered interning at a startup? If not, then read on. This post might change your perspective about startups.I interned at Rubrik. Rubrik is a backup and storage startup based in Palo Alto in California, USA. They are a team of about 50 engineers who are top notch in their respective fields. The engineers at Rubrik are super talented and they have experience of building the real tech. An Interview with the Top 5 vBloggers

Each year, Eric Siebert over at vSphere-Land provides a really groovy service to the community in the form of a Top vBlog voting contest. It’s a way for bloggers and podcasters within the virtualization community to gain recognition from peers and readers for sharing their knowledge. This year, I thought it would be interesting to send out a few questions to the Top 5 vBloggers to tickle their brain a bit over what keeps their creative juices flowing. Perhaps their answers to the following three questions will offer some insights to you as you look towards starting or furthering your own writing habits! Q1. The Top vBlog voting is driven by both quality and quantity of your writing content. How do you balance work, life, family, and everything else while still creating posts that meet these criteria? Q2. Where do you derive inspiration to craft content, and how do you then frame it into a coherent post that makes sense to your audience? Essentially – what is your process? Q3. Looking back on all of the posts you’ve written, what is your favorite (or least favorite) article and why? Cormac Hogan @CormacJHogan   A1: I see this as part of my…
Rubrik - - Hacking With Briks

Hacking With Briks

On March 30, we hosted our first company hackathon at headquarters. In 24 hours, our team submitted 24 projects, including faster backups, improvements to the UI, and extensions to the Brik. While the submissions showcased the breadth of talent within the engineering realm, we were also proud to host a brewmaster, a juggler, and a team of world change brikers that formed a committee to drive social change in our community. Of course, we cannot forget Hobson, our best buddy Slack chatbot created to answer all of our questions. Hobson, what did you think about the hackathon.” “When you’re enlightened, every word is wisdom.” Well, maybe Hobson’s answers sound more like something Gandalf would say. In the words of our CEO Bipul Sinha,“I’m blown away by Rubrik’s first hackathon. The creativity and velocity of our engineering team is humbling.” Check out a summary of the hackathon results below, and stay tuned for the innovations coming to a data center near you. In the spirit of Hobson, “speak friend and enter.”

Meet the r599 BC: Bringing Backup Back

Rubrik is proud to announce our latest product, the all new r599 BC. r599 BC does one job and does it best: archival to papyrus. “Backup is dead,” they said. “Even the dead need backup!” we believe. During our beta testing, the most crucial piece of feedback we received was from Mr. Tutankhamun, C.I.O., Pharaohmatix Inc. “We deal with sensitive data, and we need encryption, not just backup,” he said. Enter r599 BC: papyrus archival with encryption using hieroglyphs. r599 BC is the world’s first converged data management platform with state-of-art ancient encryption built right into it. What’s more, there’s no master key we can forge to break the encryption. That means you own your data. Now. Always. The customer testimonials are flying in, and they all agree: r599 BC is light-years ahead of its time. “You guys made backup sexy again.” “Rock solid backup!” “Now I can backup all of Cleopatra’s selfies without worrying!” It’s product of the century. With r599 BC, data security will never be the same again. The government can not have and will never have access to your data.

Backup Wars: The Dawn of Next-Generation Data Protection

Update: New Backup Wars video out on Episode IV: Star Wars – Backup Wars Edition. Click here! Some of you may have witnessed the epic battle between Batman and Superman last weekend. Well, we leave the interpretation of “epic” to you. Today, we are showing you a battle that is not in theatres. In honor of World Backup Day, we bring back your favorite superhero in data protection, Mr. Awesome Backup, in “Backup Wars.” In the world of backup and recovery, Mr. Awesome Backup ends the drought and restores innovation to defeat Mr. Flakey Backup. Jokes aside, battling the woes of legacy architecture is exhausting. Given the rapid adoption of virtualization and large data growth, organizations struggle to access, retrieve, and recover all this data. Legacy systems implement incremental improvements, but these Band-Aids are not enough when the underlying architecture is broken. You deserve a next-generation solution that provides consistent performance and simplifies management of backup and recovery. This is what Rubrik represents – a new school approach that eliminates traditional backup software by providing a converged data management platform that is intelligent, simple, and fast. Rubrik unifies hardware and software components complete with a state-of-the-art user experience and scale-out…

Just Backup and Chill with a No More Flaky Backups Kit

Next-generation solutions are cutting a wide swath through the modern data center because they fundamentally pivot how we think about and execute upon technology. At Rubrik, we’ve set pinpoint focus on making the world of data protection – backup and restores, disaster recovery, and searchable archives – as simple and intuitive as possible. This means abandoning the legacy architecture approaches that only bring incremental improvements to the table, and instead creating a new, ground-up solution that encompasses a scale-out design, convergence between software and hardware, and a breathtaking user experience. Quite simply, you deserve a platform that has abstracted away all of the imperative muck that surrounds typical backup jobs. If your data protection platform is designed to be intelligent, it can be fed declarative statements into a policy engine and do the remaining work on your behalf. This is how Rubrik operates, and it paves the way for bringing performance, testability, and reliability to your end-to-end protection plans. In the spirit of creating something fun to demonstrate this point, the team has created a video entitled Just Backup and Chill to showcase the frustrations encountered with legacy backup infrastructure. If this strikes a chord with you, share the link with a…
