Most commonly, users leverage VMC as a Disaster Recovery site or a place to run production workloads. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that Rubrik has validated Cloud Cluster to protect VMware Cloud on AWS as a fully-supported solution using the Rubrik Backup Service connector within the operating system of the VM to protect files and volumes. Over the past 30 years, we’ve grown  used to data protection solutions that require backup agents to be deployed within an OS. Historically, no other options were available, and the available solutions were designed to protect mostly physical machines, at least in the x86 world. Most people define  a backup agent (sometimes known as a backup client)  as a piece of software provided by the data protection solution that  performs the actual backup job from within the workload. This job is usually comprised of several tasks, including: Preparing the workload for online backup, which involves quiescing the filesystem and running applications to put them in a consistent state. Identifying new and changed data, such as blocks or files, since the previous backup operation. Processing new data, which might include actions such as deduplication, compression, and encryption. Transporting the backed up data to a backup storage target. Backup agents are deployed, controlled, and maintained by a master server that tells each agent what to do. Rubrik’s ecosystem is already huge–spanning on-premises infrastructure, from the edge to private cloud, and three big public cloud platforms–and continues to grow with each release. We recognize that most enterprises are undergoing some form of digital transformation and are in very different stages of embracing automation. We selected Python as the next programming software development kit (SDK) to help address these challenges and empower all Rubrik users to be computer programmers. Python was designed as an easy-to-understand programming language and has gained popularity for being beginner-friendly. One of its creators, Guido van Rossum, even claimed to have built Python to empower “all users to be computer programmers.” Being a high-level language, Python reads like English, taking the stress of learning language-specific syntax off beginner coders.
