Top 3 Use Cases for Rubrik with Zerto

In my first post, I’d like to share some of the cool use cases for using Rubrik with Zerto. For the uninitiated, Zerto provides hypervisor-based replication and recovery automation across hypervisors and clouds. The solution delivers RPOs of seconds and RTOs of minutes. Zerto is the logical evolution of storage-based replication/CDP with separate orchestration solutions. Similarly, Rubrik is the logical evolution of data protection and management software that frees your data from underlying infrastructure. If your primary use case is replacing SAN replication and SRM, then Zerto can help simplify and future proof your environment. Likewise, if your primary use case is replacing legacy backup hardware and software, then Rubrik is a no brainer to simplify and future proof. Now that we have established that these are complimentary solutions, here are my top 3 use cases for using them together: 1. Simplify End-to-end Data Protection The first thing users love about both Rubrik and Zerto is that they simplify the complex, enterprise-class backup and replication technologies. In a nutshell, this means that mere mortals with no professional services can achieve the highest levels of data protection assurance with ease. Rubrik delivers the best converged backup solution on the market. It can start ingesting your data to…

The Challenges of DR: Achieving Near-Zero RTO

As the Director of Sales Engineering at Rubrik, I am privileged to meet many customers across different geographies and all verticals. I witness a variety of challenges, but there are some common themes. One challenge nearly every customer battles is how to effectively manage disaster recovery (DR). To provide disaster recovery, businesses often utilize several options, including various forms of replication (array based, application based, hypervisor based), DR automation tools (i.e. VMware Site Recovery Manager), and backups. These approaches are typically costly and complex; they require similar hardware at Production and the DR location site, and users must manage multiple tools. A good DR plan provides multiple layers of protection from a myriad of failure types. This can be accomplished with tools such as snaps, data replication, and data protection. Rubrik can play a key role in your DR plan. With our solution, customers reduce their RPO to 1 hour and achieve a near-zero RTO. Rubrik leverages components of a modern data center like converged architecture, flash, and deduplication to efficiently replicate data from Brik to Brik and instantly recover VMs. Each Brik provides 30k IOPs, which allows workloads to temporarily run directly from Rubrik until production issues are rectified.…

Pure Rubrik Goodness

As Pure//Accelerate approaches, one of my favorite aspects of winning solutions comes to mind. It’s a virtue that transforms products into MVPs, rather than the drama generators so common on the court and in the field. What is it? Simplicity Businesses have enough knobs and pain points with tier-1 Oracle/SAP deployments and SQL, SharePoint and Exchange farms. The last thing they need is for storage and data protection to jump on the pile. That’s why enterprises need Pure Storage and Rubrik. From the ground up, Pure and Rubrik have simplicity in their DNA. If you have a FlashArray on the floor, then you already know the freedom and ease it brings to storage infrastructure. Gone are the days of tweaking with RAID sets or tuning LUNs to squeeze out a few performance points. With a few cables and a vSphere plugin, Pure serves up datastores and gets out of the way. Rubrik brings the same unobtrusive value to data protection and is the perfect pairing to Pure. From rack & go to policy-driven automation to instant recovery, Rubrik drives straight to the point and with beautiful simplicity.Rack & Go Rack & Go The first thing that stands out with Rubrik is its lean footprint–it doesn’t eat…

ExponentHR Goes Forward with a Simpler, Easier DR Strategy

Misha Vyazmensky, CTO, and Chris Gurley, Sr. Network Engineer, explain how Rubrik helped ExponentHR move forward in its DR strategy. What does ExponentHR do? Misha: Since 2001, we’ve been a leading human resource information systems SaaS platform. We help businesses (100 to 10,000+ employees) drive smarter decision-making, from running payroll to accessing vast amounts of data for financial analysis to managing employee benefit plans in light of recent legislative changes like ObamaCare. Why were you investigating a new solution for backup and replication? Misha: We have a team of 4 employees. We’re a small group supporting an enterprise-level business so we place a high emphasis on technologies that deliver simplicity and ease of management. Chris: Before, we were using a virtualization-centric backup solution that had replication capabilities to deliver off-site availability. When it worked, it was fine. When it didn’t work, it was rocket science to root cause the issue. Restores were also click-intensive and time consuming – it took a hundred clicks and 30 minutes to start restore for just 50 VMs. Why Rubrik? Chris: We were two days away from signing paperwork to expand our existing backup system when I saw Duncan Epping’s post on Rubrik. We had…
