Job Summary
About the Role:
At Rubrik, we pride ourselves on our ability to leverage data to drive decision making in the business. We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our team, an individual who is not just an expert coder but also a strategic thinker and leader. This role is a hybrid of a senior technical contributor and a team manager. You'll be responsible for driving complex technical projects and also for leading our new Automation and Integration team. This is a great opportunity for a seasoned engineer ready to step up and make a significant impact on our engineering processes and team dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & System Design:
- Design and implement highly scalable, robust, and reliable software systems.
- Lead the architecture and design of our core platform components, ensuring they meet long-term business goals.
- Provide expert guidance and mentorship to other engineers on best practices, code quality, and system design.
- Conduct code reviews and set coding standards for the team.
- Team & Process Management:
- Manage the Automation and Integration team, including hiring, performance management, and career development for team members.
- Define the team's roadmap and project priorities, ensuring alignment with the broader engineering and company objectives.
- Champion a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure smooth integration of new systems and features.
- Problem-Solving & Innovation:
- Serve as the go-to technical expert for complex and ambiguous problems.
- Proactively identify and address technical debt and architectural challenges.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and tools to improve our engineering processes and product.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex software systems.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, including experience managing a team of software engineers.
- Technical Skills:
- Deep expertise in [Programming Language, e.g., Python, Java, Go].
- Extensive experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and microservices architecture.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Leadership & Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to mentor junior and senior engineers.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a strategic mindset.
- SCRUM and agile software development execution
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience with NoSQL, SQL, time-series, and in-memory database systems (ElasticSearch, Redis, Graphite, InfluxDB, OpenTSDB, CockroachDB, Snowflake, Redshift)
- Prior experience with Nginx, uwsgi, RabbitMQ, SQS software.
- Prior experience with Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, or similar container-based platform services.
- Experience developing in Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience developing in Go, c++, or similar programming languages.
- Knowledge of IP networking, understanding the OSI L7 model, routing, firewalling, NAT, subnetting, VPC/VLAN, and VPNs in cloud environments (AWS, GCP).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
