Sydney, Australia – July 16, 2020 – Rubrik, the Cloud Data Management company, today announced it has helped Australian strategic ICT company Tecala improve productivity by more than 30 percent through its cloud data management solution. This has helped the company double its data protection business without needing to add any resources to its cloud team.

Tecala is an end-to-end mid-market Managed Services Provider (MSP) with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. It provides a range of Managed Cloud, Infrastructure, and User Support services along with a comprehensive, as-a-Service practice, delivering infrastructure, data protection, and disaster recovery. Tecala provides customers interconnectivity – for both data and voice – via its national network services, leveraging traditional MPLS and modern architecture (SDWAN).

With data retention and recovery being so pivotal in the modern workplace, Tecala sought to modernize to achieve productivity gains, rather than sacrificing quality. Backup and data management had become time-consuming, with its Cloud Services team spending hundreds of hours on the daily grind of monitoring and troubleshooting, just to ensure SLA adherence without any notable performance improvement.

“Our old environment didn’t actually impact our customers, but that came at great cost to my team in terms of time and stress as they babysat the infrastructure,” said Lee Apps, Cloud Services Manager at Tecala. “As the business continued to expand, we needed a new system that was automation and API-led to ensure our backup services were tenable.”

Rubrik worked closely with Tecala to completely overhaul its environment, deploying its modern architecture throughout Tecala’s Australian data centers. This has improved backup time management by 90 percent and overall productivity by 30 percent. The increased efficiency has been a contributing factor to Tecala being able to double its data protection business and do so without increasing headcount in Cloud Services.

Tecala is now running 11,000 backups per evening, with an expected failure rate of just 6/11000, or around 0.05 percent. Rubrik’s quickly scalable appliance model and partnerships with public cloud providers including AWS, Azure, and GCP have also reduced the lead time in deploying and configuring equipment to meet customer needs from months down to just a few hours.

Expanding in a crisis

Apps says that the Rubrik environment has given Tecala the confidence to continue to grow during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We saw what was coming and went remote early, which enabled us to help customers do the same when it was mandated. The scalability of Rubrik has helped make that process more seamless for customers and has helped us to continue to onboard new customers through our Australian Service Operations Centre, despite the pandemic.”

With backups simplified, Tecala’s cloud team has been able to focus on providing greater value to its customers and introducing new capabilities.

“If data was considered important before, it’s now a business lifeline in Australia,” said Jamie Humphrey, Managing Director for Rubrik Australia and New Zealand.

“Businesses need to give more priority to backup and recovery to safeguard themselves, but if that’s happening with untenable human and time resources, it won’t work. Tecala is creating the benchmark not just for ICT businesses, but any business to make data work for them and maintain competitiveness even in the most turbulent times.”

Highlights:

  • 30 percent increase in productivity: “It’s quite something to be able to tell management you don’t need to add any capacity to manage a 100 percent increase in business.”
  • 90 percent management time savings: “Backup troubleshooting used to take hours daily. Now it’s not even a consideration.”
  • Running 11,000 daily backups with just six backups – or 0.05 percent – failing: “Put simply, backup failures are not a problem – the daily average of six are expected and easily resolved without any risk to our SLAs or reputation with customers.”
  • Cloud partnership and compatibility: “Rubrik’s extensive technology partnership network and compatibility with the cloud providers used by our customers removes any complication and takes our deployment and configuration time down from months to hours.”
