What's New: Rubrik Integrates with MongoDB Ops Manager
The integration of Rubrik and MongoDB Ops Manager gives Database Administrators (DBAs) and IT operations teams new tools to manage data protection using Rubrik Security Cloud (RSC). Once integrated with Ops Manager, Rubrik onboards Ops Manager as the source and global SLA policies are applied in RSC. This manages the life cycle of the data from a single location, instead of from separate workflows. Now, the data protection lifecycle of MongoDB Enterprise Advanced becomes an intrinsic part of your Rubrik management processes.

How Rubrik Works with MongoDB Ops Manager
Rubrik's protection architecture for MongoDB Enterprise Advanced is comprised of three key components:
Rubrik Security Cloud (RSC) is a SaaS platform managed by Rubrik that serves as the central control hub for backup operations. It organizes and executes these operations based on predefined SLA Domains, which specify the frequency of backups and how long data will be retained. The control plane is responsible for orchestrating tasks, managing policies, and monitoring backup and recovery jobs. This comprehensive management ensures data security and compliance throughout the entire backup and recovery process.
A Rubrik Secure Vault (RSV) cluster connected to Rubrik Security Cloud that secures your data against the evolving landscape of cyber threats. It provides air-gapped, immutable, access-controlled backups to recover when you need to most.
The MongoDB Ops Manager is used to manage the MongoDB deployments. RSC calls the Ops Manager during backup and restore operations, orchestrates the MongoDB clusters into a ready state, and then back to a normal state once the operations are complete.

First, the Rubrik Backup Service (RBS) must be downloaded and installed on the Linux MongoDB source hosts (including the config hosts for a sharded setup) using either the RPM or DEB installation methods. This setup helps Rubrik securely communicate with your MongoDB environment. Rubrik will automatically flag any nodes that lack an RBS connection unless they are intentionally exempt from protection.
Next, administrators connect RSC to MongoDB Ops Manager via API keys and add the MongoDB clusters managed via Ops Manager as the MongoDB source to RSC. Once the cluster is added, Rubrik adds the Ops Manager to the inventory.
Then, administrators can use the RSC to create and assign global SLA Policies to the MongoDB Ops Manager. These policies automate the frequency of data and Oplog backups (snapshots) and define their retention period. Rubrik uses the data path to store MongoDB snapshots in its immutable file system and retrieve them for recovery purposes. The data path employs the Apache Secure Thrift protocol for direct writes to the immutable file system, securing MongoDB data backups and the Oplog.
All internal and external communications between protected objects, Rubrik Secure Vault, your cloud accounts, and RSC are encrypted. Communication between the Rubrik Secure Vault Cluster and RSC via the control path is always encrypted using the TLS 1.2 protocol.
